Reverse: 1999

Reverse: 1999 Summon (Gacha System) Guide

By Paul | Nov 5th 2023

Recent gacha games have been following similar systems and Reverse: 1999 isn't any different. If you are a veteran mobile game player, then most of the terminologies and features we will cover in this article will be quite familiar to you. Otherwise, we will try to explain the system to newcomers who are not quite adept with this concept of gacha. In this article, we will discuss how Reverse: 1999's Summoning System works and how you can take advantage of it.

What is Gacha?

If you're already familiar with the concept, please continue to the sections below. Otherwise, read on. Think of gacha as a lottery or loot box system where you have to spend premium currency or special tickets/vouchers for a chance to get something from the prize pool of possible prizes/items/characters. In Reverse: 1999, you only need to pull for characters and their duplicates. You can use these extra copies to activate potent passive effects for your characters (more on that later).

For any gacha game, players use a trick called "rerolling" as soon as they start the game for a chance at snagging their favorite or top-notch characters by using the free in-game currency or resources provided to newcomers. It also aids in deciding whether you wish to push ahead with your game progress or start from scratch, all without any expenditure.

If you need detailed instructions on how to reroll, please check out our Reroll Guide.

Gacha Currency

Reverse: 1999 uses three currencies for summoning:

  • Unilog: This looks like a gold bunny. You can obtain these usually from events or exchanged in the in-game shop. 1 Unilog = 1 Summon.
  • Clear Drop: The in-game currency you can earn by completing quests, daily tasks, clearing stages, and more. 180 Clear Drops = 1 Summon
  • Crystal Drop: This is the game's premium currency that can only be obtained by spending real money. They can be converted to Clear Drops in a 1:1 ratio. Aside from that, Crystal Drops can be used for purchasing certain premium items or item packs within the game.

Gacha Banners

In the game, you'll encounter both limited and permanent banners. New players can dive into the limited starter banner called "The First Drop of Rain," offering a guaranteed random 6-star character after 30 summons. What makes this banner enticing is that the three featured characters, namely Regulus, Lilya, and Eternity, have an increased likelihood of being pulled. All three of them are considered high-tier units, so landing any of them in your roll attempt is already a successful outcome.

"Amid the Water" is the go-to standard banner in Reverse: 1999, housing the majority of non-limited characters. Limited characters are later introduced into this standard character pool in subsequent patches. However, it's worth noting that rolling on this banner comes with a reduced chance of acquiring a specific character you desire, as the drop rates are spread across a larger pool of potential characters.

Summoning Rates

The standard summoning rate are the following:

  • 6-star characters: 1.5%
  • 5-star characters: 8.5%
  • 4-star characters: 40%
  • 3-star characters: 45%
  • 2-star characters: 5%

The rate presented is out of 100%; so basically, every time you summon in a banner, there's a 1.5% chance of getting a 6-star character or 45% likely getting a 3-star character.

Rate Up Mechanic

The summoning rate is further divided since multiple characters share the same summon rate. So for example, there are 10 possible 6-star characters in the pool, and you triggered that 1.5% chance of getting one. Since the chance is shared among all ten 6-star characters, you only have 0.15% of getting a specific character you want. This is why "Rate-Up" or Limited banners are ideal since the chance of the featured character(s) to appear is higher whenever you summon a 6-star character.

Pity Rate

"Pity" rate makes the gacha mechanic for several games a bit more forgiving. This system guarantees that you'll get characters after a certain number of pulls. Without this system, it is possible that you'll be unlucky enough to burn through your resources without even getting the character you want. To make the explanation a bit easier to read and remember, please refer to the bullet points below.

  1. Every 10 summons guarantees at least one 4-star character or higher.
  2. In limited banners, the overall rate for 6-star characters (including the Guarantee) is 2.36%
  3. After 60 consecutive summons and you haven't obtained any 6-star character, the rate of summoning a 6-star character in the next summon will rise from 1.5% to 4%.
  4. After that point, each summon that doesn't grant you a 6-star character will increase the rate by 2.5%
  5. If you're still unable to get a 6-star character after all that boosted rate, you're guaranteed to get a 6-star character on the 70th summon (hard pity)
  6. After getting a 6-star character at any point of the summon attempts (on or before the 70th guaranteed summon), the summoning rate for 6-star units will revert back to 1.5%.
  7. On Limited and Rate-Up banners, featured characters have a 50% chance of likely getting summoned when you trigger the appearance of a 6-star or 5-star character.
  8. If you failed to get the featured banner character, your next 6-star character summoned is guaranteed to be the featured character, providing that you're summoning on the correct banner.

Take note that this pity system and counter is shared among Limited and Rate Up banners as well. Best of all, these counters are carried over to succeeding patches.

Duplicate Copies

Duplicate characters are converted into items called Artifices that can be used to unlock the Portrays that activate the passive abilities of characters, permanently unlocking their potential.

After fully unlocking all Portray levels (max of 5), all succeeding duplicate copies of the character will be converted into Albums of the Lost (for 6-star and 5-star characters) and Tracks of the Lost (4-star characters below). These special currency can be used in the Pawnshop (in-game store) to exchange for valuable items like Unilogs, Insight and Resonate materials, Photographs (for summoning specific characters).

The amount of Albums and Tracks of the lost that you can obtain will depend on the rarity of the duplicate character that reached their max Portray level. This is applicable to all duplicates, regardless of the source other than Summoning. Other methods of getting new characters include event rewards, invited through Photographs (from the Pawnshop), etc. The conditions and rules about this are as follows:

  • When you acquire the same 6-star character for the 2nd to 6th time, each duplicate character will be transformed into 1 Artifice of the character and 12 Albums of the Lost. Beyond the 6th time, obtaining a duplicate character will yield 28 Albums of the Lost.
  • For 5-star characters, duplicates gathered between the 2nd and 6th times will convert into 1 Artifice of the character and 3 Albums of the Lost. After the 6th instance, each duplicate will provide 7 Albums of the Lost.
  • When it comes to 4-star characters, duplicates from the 2nd to 6th time will result in 1 Artifice of the character and 8 Tracks of the Lost. After the 6th repetition, you'll receive 12 Tracks of the Lost for each duplicate.
  • For 3-star characters, duplicates acquired between the 2nd and 6th time will be exchanged for 1 Artifice of the character and 4 Tracks of the Lost. Beyond the 6th time, each duplicate will yield 7 Tracks of the Lost.
  • Finally, when obtaining the same 2-star character for the 2nd to 6th time, each duplicate will be transformed into 1 Artifice of the character and 3 Tracks of the Lost. After the 6th occurrence, you'll receive 5 Tracks of the Lost for each duplicate.
