You need to find ur previous corpse where u died but this only applies for timed areas and areas that do not reset immediately. Areas that do reset will not save ur items.

it is gone unless you die in your base or bunker(until it resets). but in pine forrest(without infected forrest) and limestones, it's gone forever.
