And while this genre of games have certainly got a lot more complicated and in-depth over the years, Football League 2023 is one of those footie sims that you can pick up and play straight away without getting bogged down in settings. What we loved about this game was that you could get straight into the action. It's very simply to play and the action buttons are clearly marked. We recommend playing one friendly at least before getting into anything more serious.

1. Watch some ads

You'll see offers to watch ads to boost morale before a match, or to increase stamina during a match. If you think that you may struggle in the game, then it could be a good idea to watch an add to get that morale boost before the game.

However, if you are playing a league, and just starting out, and just planning to simulate the result you probably don't need to watch the morale boost ads, as you'll likely win anyway!

2. Practice

Before you get stuck into the different cup and league modes, make sure that you get enough practice in goal scoring and tackling without making fouls. The game is very easy to play, but scoring goals can be an issue for beginners.

To make goal scoring a bit easier make sure that you shoot with a forward player, and look out for and react quickly to rebounds if the goalie makes a save.

3. Simulate matches to save time

If you pretty much know that you will win the match, you may want to save time to simulate the result and move onto the next one, especially in long league events.

However the downside to simulating, is that you are missing out on valuable practice games as you do need to improve your skills generally in the league as some of the games are tough, especially when you get promoted to the next division.
