How do I get my boat start to race?

Boat race will start when you tap "join and play." Nothing changes within your game and race starts at whatever level your at. If you complete 3 levels consecutively you collect a reward and move on to the next race, which is 5 consecutive wins. Unable to tell you how many after that, never made it that far. Good luck!
