When a person joins a team in the middle of a tournament can they partake on the win?

Yes, UNLESS they were on another team that already started playing during that same Tournament. If that is the case they show up as 'ineligible' on your Tournament list. Leaving a team after they start a Tournament makes you ineligible - even if you rejoin your same first team
