When the game first begins one of your first tasks will be to clear additional land, at which point you will discover that :Land Expansion Slots are fairly small and get more expensive the farther from the center of the starting area you go.

While there is an obvious need to clear land ahead of your needs as you expand and level up, the fact is that setting a goal to clear a lot of land ahead of your needs is a good strategy. Even so, when you add the land slots to the sea slots, it takes the average player between 12 and 14 months to fully clear all of the Land Expansion Slots as well as Sea Expansion Slots.

While Land Expansion Slots are a core goal for the first ten levels or so, you will want to focus upon Sea Expansion Slots after that so that you have at least four along the coast cleared prior to reaching the point at which the Springfield Squidport Expansion.

Squidport Expansion

Once you reach the point at which the Squidport Expansion is added to the game, you will also have reached a point at which the costs and expenses will rapidly slow down your progress. That being the case, it is generally a good idea to get a lot of land cleared ahead of that point so that you can focus on Squidport.

The Squidport Expansion requires you to clear Sea Expansion Slots and place the entrance to Squidport along the shore, at which point - using the entrance - you will be building Boardwalk Sections - which is going to be a massive money sink at least until you manage to build a basic boardwalk, which would be a spread of around twenty sections wide and three deep.

The reason that that much Boardwalk is required is due to the large number of Boardwalk Buildings that are part of the story-mode for the Expansion.
