Disclaimer : Please be reminded that Tier Lists are not 'definite' measures of the character's strength and potential. There are a lot of factors to be considered like the characters' availability, their synergy with your team, their utility, equipment, etc. As such, please use our tier lists as what they're meant to be - a guide. Use tier lists to help you decide whether you'll want to invest resources and time to build a character. At the end of the day, it's you who will decide which ones you'll use based on preference and performance.

Azur Lane Ship Classification (BB, BC,BBV, BM)

BB, BC, BBV, and BM are ship classifications used in naval terminology and in the game. In Azur Lane, they are positioned in the Main (rear) slots in a fleet formation. Here are the definitions for each of them:

  • BB (Battleship): Heavily armored with powerful guns, capable of firing powerful salvos that deal massive damage but with a smaller AoE.
  • BC (Battlecruiser):
  • These are technically 'fast battleships', having the same firepower as normal battleships but less protected in exchange for higher speed.

  • BBV (Battleship Aviation):
  • These combine the firepower of battleships and the ability to launch aircraft to attack the enemy. Since BBVs are hybrids, they won't be competing toe-to-toe against pure battleships or pure carriers in terms of performance but they make up for it with having the advantages of both ship types.

  • BM (Monitor):
  • These are predecessors of the prominent battleship design so in terms of actual utility, they're weaker than conventional battleships. In the game, BMs are fragile but are capable of unleashing powerful support shelling. One of their main advantages is that they consume less fuel in the game.

Azur Lane Tier List

As of April 2023, Azur Lane has a total of 522 regular ships, 90 of which can be retrofitted. These ships are divided into four major classes, each with their own specialty, position, and role in the game so compiling them into a single tier is almost impossible and won't do any shipgirl justice. That's why we have decided to create separate tier list pages for each major category to make it easier to compile and grade them fairly and accordingly the best we can.

In the tier list below, we have compiled all battleships in the game (including subtypes).

Best Azur Lane Battleships Description

Unfortunately, we won't be able to give a description to all shipgirls in the game so we will just provide the description for the SS and S-tier units for your perusal.

Friedrich der Gro'e

Construction: Research

Rarity: Decisive

Faction: Iron Blood

Friedrich der Gro'e is a powerful battleship boasting an incredibly high shelling damage through her hard-hitting barrage. It's ideal to set her as a flagship to take advantage of her special barrage thanks to her Symphony of Destruction skill. Additionally, her Rhapsody of Darkness skill (and its iteration) provides bonuses to her firepower and damage reduction, depending on her current HP percentage. This provides her with a good balance of firepower and survivability as the situation needs.

Musashi

Construction: 5:15:00

Rarity: UR (Ultra Rare)

Faction: Sakura Empire

The ship has several abilities that enhance its combat capabilities, including a chance to fire a special barrage with increased crit rate and armor break ailment to enemies hit. It also increases its own firepower and accuracy, and if equipped with Sakura Empire gear, can further increase its reload speed and main gun crit damage. Musashi also has defensive abilities, such as reducing damage taken at the start of battle if she's not the flagship or airspace control is not in Air Incapability or Air Denial. It can also fire a supporting barrage when a fleet she's not part of enters a battle.

Finally, while above 40% HP, it grants 'Musashi's Guardianship' status to other Main Fleet ships, which provides immunity to ramming DMG, forces Musashi to become detected if they become detected, and causes Musashi to be prioritized by enemy attacks if they are both valid targets.

New Jersey

Construction: 6:30:00

Rarity: UR (Ultra Rare)

Faction: Eagle Union

New Jersey is an excellent battleship that offers high shelling damage due to her efficient main guns and reduced spread. Her slowing abilities increase her impact even further. She has a powerful personal barrage that combines HE and AP shells, allowing triple BB fleets to use AP main guns without sacrificing the ability to burn.

Additionally, New Jersey provides fleet-wide buffs that will be applied to all Eagle Union ships in the same fleet as her, and will get activated by simply sorting out with at least another Eagle Union ship. To take advantage of this buff, deploying her in a fleet consisting exclusively of Eagle Union ships.

Ulrich von Hutten

Construction: 6:00:00

Rarity: UR (Ultra Rare)

Faction: Iron Blood

Ulrich von Hutten is a battleship with an outstanding proximity and on-fire barrage, making her a powerful addition to any fleet. Her unique reload gimmick makes her even more potent when she's not the flagship, making her quite useful in both flagship and non-flagship roles. Ulrich also provides some fleet support with a reduced version of her defensive proximity barrage.

Her 'Revolutionary's Prosaic' skill boosts her critical modifier. Additionally, while this ship is afloat, whenever ANOTHER fleet engages in one of its first five battles of the sortie, Ulrich can reduce damage taken by all Iron Blood ships in that fleet by a certain percentage and increases the critical modifier for all Iron Blood ships in that fleet by 1.0% (10.0%).

Vanguard

Construction: 5:20:00

Rarity: UR (Ultra Rare)

Faction: Royal Navy

Vanguard is a battleship that excels at taking down bosses and provides strong support to the fleet through various debuffs. Her reload buff is particularly useful for syncing with other battleships using the same equipment to maximize backline damage.

This battleship has increased Accuracy and Reload, and enemies that have been afloat for 2 seconds take more damage. It increases the FP of Royal Navy vanguard ships in another fleet and has a special barrage and AA increase 30 seconds after that battle starts.

The ship's secondary guns have guaranteed critical hits, thanks to her skill 'Behold, My Royal Sabre!'. The skill can improve AA gun efficiency as well as reducing the spread of Vanguard's main guns as long as she is equipped with at least one Royal Navy gear piece. If there is another Royal Navy ship in the fleet, damage taken from aircraft is decreased for all RN vanguard ships in the fleet. .
