Soul Reapers

The Soul Reapers are a group of people dedicated to saving souls beyond their world. When a Soul Reaper saves a soul, that soul is transported to the Soul Society where they can be trained and grow stronger. After completing their training, Soul Reapers can join one of the X13 units, each with its own leader and lieutenant.

However, not all Soul Reapers are born into this role or adhere to the strict laws of the Soul Society. Those who do not meet these requirements can become Substitute Soul Reapers, which allows them to use their abilities but not be officially recognized as a Soul Reaper.

One of the most iconic tools of a Soul Reaper is their Zanpakuto sword. As Soul Reapers progress in their training, they learn how to communicate with their swords. Eventually, they can unlock the two awakenings of their Zanpakuto known as Shikai (when they learn the sword's name) and Bankai (when they discover the sword's true name).

Hollows

Hollows are the spirits of people who have passed away but were consumed by their regrets, ultimately transforming into monstrous creatures with masks and holes in their chests, signifying the loss of their hearts.

One can become a Hollow in two ways: firstly, if they were consumed by regret after death, or secondly, if the Chain of Fate - a chain located on the chest of the deceased - slowly erodes and breaks, leading to the formation of the signature hole in the chest.

However, there is a way to escape the fate of becoming a Hollow. If a Soul Reaper intervenes and saves a person from their impending transformation, they can help guide the soul to the Soul Society, where it can receive the necessary training to progress and develop as a spirit.

Arrancars

Okay, so check it out - Arrancars used to be badass Hollows known as the Menos. But then they got all fancy and started removing their masks, which left them looking like humanoid creatures with a little bit of their old mask still on their faces. The Menos came in different levels, like Gillians, Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde. The Vastocars were the big kahunas, while the Menoscars were the wimps. Oh, and by the way, Arrancars still have that signature Hollow trait of having a hole where their heart used to be.

Now, you might think that Arrancars are just like the Soul Reapers with their Zanpakuto swords, but nope! They can't do the whole Shikai or Bankai thing. Instead, they have a nifty trick called Resurrection. Basically, they can supercharge themselves, but once they do it, they're stuck like that - no turning back. So, you gotta be sure it's worth it before you hit that Resurrection button!
