If, for example, you are playing a game and the opponent takes the easiest gems by using the wind, you can use spin to work against the wind and go for gems in the other direction.

Where wind primarily effect balls that have gone down in speed, spin works best in the beginning when speed is high. (Later, wind will overrule)

If the ball has spin you still need the club to have it as well. The club will usually restrict it, especially if you don't upgrade your clubs.

This must be a response to a different question because I still don't know specifics about how ball spin affects ball movement. What does the front spin do? Back spin? Side spins are more obvious.

I mostly use top spin to get the ball to roll farther with my driver or putter. I use this when I need more distance, to counter a headwind, or both. Use back spin when you need to chip hard to green but want to hold on the green. Rare.
