What can I apply magic to?

What can I apply magic to? Towards weapons or elements? Which ones? I know fire armor protects you from fire somewhat, and darkness slows you to see ghosts, air against spikes but what does earth and light do and what do I use with them?

Earth allows you to stand on Green platforms. Always have one Earth armor for levels past Chap 2 Lvl 4, as they are frequent (variably so) and in some cases are required to reach secret areas (like for the achievement for Chap 2 Lvl 7) I myself have never used light, but Light wealons can pass through Light barriers. They may ignore syates of invulnerability (Large Minions/Crow Armor Skeletons), but I have not tried that.
Fire makes you immune to lava and fire traps (not vs fireball traps!), Air makes you immune to spikes and rotating saw, Fire+Air makes you immune to flaming circular saw traps. Darkness will reveal ghosts while you are facing them, otherwise they will only be revealed with your back to them. Water lets you walk on water or other fluids. With Earth you can walk on green platforms and Light weapons ignore Light shields on the map (NOT the circular shields on enemies) as mentioned above.
Depending on your class, elements can also improve special abilities.
