Can not connect the road - what does that mean? I have road icons on all my buildings and installations.

All buildings need to be connected to the base via roads. The game will try to place roads for you but perhaps the path is blocked by other buildings. Try tapping and holding on the building to move it to a different location so you can build a road. You can also manually add roads via the Build menu.
