How do you get the pink gems? Like other then watching adds. And do the monster blocks do anything?

Pink gems do appear occasionally but usually only near the start of a game. Watching the ads (if you do it often wen you can) should let you earn plenty of gems though.
The monster blocks are just another block to clear but they move around each turn so you can't be sure where they may end up next.
