Understanding your Role in the Battle

Each Tank has a specific role to play in battle. Generally speaking the following should always apply - and observing this will keep you from getting negative feelings from your team members. Failing to follow the basic roles will usually result in your team mates feeling very negative towards you and referring to you as a newb...

Light Tanks: Point Role - their job is to run out onto the field and find and locate the enemy. Note that does NOT mean that they are supposed to simply sacrifice themselves in the process. You are expected to use the superior speed and maneuverability of your Light Tank to find the enemy AND avoid being SHOT by the enemy!

Remember that your most important job is to locate the enemy so that the Heavy Tanks and Tank Destroyers can kill them!

Medium Tanks: Your job is to engage the enemy but to do it smart. When the Light Tanks reveal the location of enemy units, the Medium Tanks are expected to use their superior speed especially with Heavy enemies to maneuver into good firing positions behind the enemy.

Depending on how the Light Tanks have done, it is often necessary for the Mediums to take on part of their role and seek out the location of the enemy. Beyond that your most important job is to protect the flanks and read of the Heavy Tanks in your team to keep the enemy from taking them out easily.

Heavy Tanks: Your job is to engage and kill the enemy that the Light and Medium tankers have located and revealed. Some care must be taken to remain situational-aware - after all you are the preferred target for pretty much ALL of the enemy forces!

With any luck one or more of the Medium Tanks will be crewed by a player who understands that protecting YOU is the best tactic - and so ideally you should find yourself with one or two outriders who will prevent the enemy from sneaking up behind you and ruining your day.

Tank Destroyers: These are the heavy hitters to be sure, but they are also very vulnerable to attack. Destroyers are most effective when they fire by surprise, from cover, into the weak points of the enemy, and focus their effort on taking out the Medium and Heavy tanks.

The best tactic is to pair with a Medium (or even a Heavy) in which case the Medium works in support of you, whereas when paired with a Heavy YOU take on the supporting role.

As long as you follow these basic tactics and rules, you will find that success comes to you more often than you needing to seek it out!
