Gamer reviews for SwapQuest
SwapQuest- A Truly Puzzling RPG
In sharp contrast to the myriad of pay-to-win RPGs and dungeon crawlers clogging up the App Store comes a unique RPG/puzzle game fusion project from developer Constantin Graf.
The game is an all-inclusive app that charges players $2.99 to enjoy an ad-free monster-slaying puzzle-playing experience with no additional fees.
The game is centered around the story of a young prince or princess (player's choice) and their hero's journey to vanquish the evil that is slowly encapsulating their beautiful homeland. Playing the game is reminiscent of Where's my Water and a sliding picture puzzle all rolled up into an auto-fight RPG. See, the poor hero has this awesome world-saving quest all lined up, but unfortunately the road to triumph is... well, not quite as lined up. The player then gets the task of creating a path that not only goes from point A to point B, but also passes by as many gems and treasure chests as possible. There will be monsters along the way, of course, and there is definitely a strategy element to choosing your battles and always staying a few steps ahead of the fast-approaching doom storm.
The graphics are basically middle-of-the-road, not awe-inspiring, but not sloppy. The game is designed to be light and fun- more of a casual time-waster than a full scale RPG, but casual gamers looking to have a bit more story with their puzzle games will definitely be satisfied.
I am a big fan of both puzzles and RPGs to being with, so the concept of a SwapQuest adventure intrigued me. The controls take some getting used to, and it took me a good five minutes to figure out the finer points of questing and swapping. The tutorial is basic and vague, which is fine for those of you who hate following directions anyway, but I, personally, could have used a few more hints. Overall, The game is worth a play through.
We gave the game 4 of 5 stars for being an intriguing concept with a decent storyline. The missing star is for the unusual game mechanics or, more specifically, the lack of explanation on how to use them.
