When you are in battle with another ship you never want to be caught sitting still!
Whether firing or lining up your shots you want to keep your ship constantly in motion because that makes it all the more difficult for the enemy to line up for his most favorable and damaging angles and shots.
It also can help you to target his weakest points (those being the back and rear quarters of their ship).
Keeping in motion also makes it easier for you to maintain targeting for both your front AND one of the side turrets, so you are able to deal double damage.
If you have Veronica as part of your ship crew, you can use her special ability to rapidly position and re-position your ship so that you are getting your best shots in while avoiding theirs. Food for thought.
